Michigan farmers keeping off wet fields

Many Michigan fields remain over-saturated with continued wet conditions.

USDA says nearly all of the state has no drought, with some areas in Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Oakland, and Macomb counties considered abnormally dry.

Michigan State University Extension cover crops and soil health educator Christina Curell tells Brownfield farmers can do more harm than good in wet fields.

“Due to soil compaction and other physical changes you’re making in that field—so as you’re looking forward to the next couple of weeks, just keep an eye on your fields, let them dry out,” she advises.
