A mild start to the New Year for much of the Heartland; additional drought relief ahead

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- or above-normal temperatures and precipitation across most of the country.  Cooler-than-normal conditions will be confined to parts of southern California and the Desert Southwest.

Meanwhile, drier-than-normal weather should be limited to portions of the Great Lakes region, northern Plains, and the south-central U.S.
