Drought relief continues in the West; mild, wet weather across the Midwest Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, chilly conditions persist across the upper Midwest, where an extensive snow cover remains in place.  Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, has reported at least an inch of snow on the ground each day this month, with a depth of 6 inches or greater since December 20.  Meanwhile, rain spreading across parts of the southern and eastern Corn Belt is providing some drought relief.

On the Plains, mild, dry weather prevails.  Extensive snow remains on the ground in the Dakotas and portions of neighboring states, with depths of at least a foot currently reported in Red River Valley locations such as Fargo and Grand Forks, North Dakota.
