Muscatine Community College to reopen today following Wednesday’s threat to campus

Muscatine Community College will reopen today following a threat to the campus that was announced late-Wednesday morning on the College’s social media outlets.

“We are working with local law enforcement to conduct an investigation. We will continue to keep the college updated as information becomes available,” explained the announcement shared Wednesday, November 30, via the Muscatine Community College Facebook Page.

Though there was no explanation as to what the “threat” was, law enforcement officials took action immediately.

In a subsequent post to Facebook shared later that afternoon, Muscatine Community College announced that the campus would be reopening today, Thursday, Thursday, December 1, 2022, following the “potential threat” in a statement reading:

Muscatine Community College will reopen tomorrow following the ongoing investigation of a potential threat. As stated in a previous release, the college received an email including a threat this morning, which led to the campus being closed to assure the safety of everyone.

College officials working with the Muscatine Police Department have determined there is no ongoing threat and it’s safe for college classes and operations to resume as normal on Thursday, December 1.

We recognize this has been a stressful situation for students and employees. To help ensure everyone feels safe and supported, students and employees can expect increased security measures as well as an on-site counselor who will be available to provide services and support.

We appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff in their willingness to immediately follow our request to secure the campus. It certainly showed our shared commitment to caring for one another in times of a potential emergency.

We will continue to keep students, faculty, staff and the community informed as updates become available on our website, www.eicc.edu.
