Nebraska farmer harvesting best soybeans ever in latest USDA repor
North-Central Nebraska farmer Anne Meis says nearly perfect growing conditions have led to their best soybean harvest. “We’ll see a 5-10 percent better yield than last year,” she says. “These are the best yields that we’ve seen since we’ve been farming for 35 years.”
The latest crop progress report from the USDA says soybean harvest is 18 percent behind last year at 60 percent complete with 75 percent of the crop rated good-to-excellent.
Meis says dryland corn yields are around 175 bushels-per-acre. “It would’ve been nice to be pleasantly surprised like the beans, but it is a good crop and it met our expectations with our dry, hot July.”
Corn harvest is nearing 30 percent complete with 70 percent called good-to-excellent.
Eighty-eight percent of winter wheat has been planted.
Sorghum condition is rated at 52 percent good-to-excellent with 38 percent of the crop harvested.
Pasture and rangeland is rated 17 percent good-to-excellent.
