Ice cream: a pandemic trend that’s sticking

The International Dairy Foods Association says consumers’ cravings for ice cream haven’t slowed down a year after COVID-19.

Hard ice cream production for the first five months of 2021 is ahead of last year when sales during the pandemic set a five-year high with more than one billion gallons produced.

Retail sales through June this year were only slightly behind last year’s record high.

China consumes the most ice cream globally, with the U.S. second as Americans eat about 23 pounds of ice cream annually.

July celebrates National Ice Cream Month and is the top production month of ice cream makers.
