GOP and White House apart on infrastructure bill
The White House and Republican lawmakers are now further apart on an infrastructure package, ahead of the Memorial Day recess next week.
After the GOP proposed a scaled down infrastructure bill last week, the White House came back with a lower proposal which Republican leaders say is still not low enough.
The head of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), Dennis Slater, says they support President Biden’s counterproposal of $1.7 trillion dollars and they’re encouraged by the negotiations.
Slater says “the 2.8 Million men and women of the equipment manufacturing industry count on Democrats and Republicans to work together to advance legislation that makes a transformational investment in (the nations’s) infrastructure.”
Republicans are opposed to any bill that increases the corporate tax rate which Biden’s proposal does.
