38% of U.S. soybeans, 25% of corn harvested

The U.S. corn and soybean harvests continue to move faster than average. Weather was generally favorable in most of the U.S. Midwest and Plains, aside from scattered rainfall and a turn to cooler temperatures in parts of the region over the weekend.

As of Sunday, 38% of U.S. soybeans are harvested, compared to the five-year average of 28%, with 85% of beans dropping leaves, compared to 82% on average, and 64% of the crop in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.

With many producers focusing on beans, 25% of corn is harvested, compared to 24% on average, and 87% is mature, compared to the usual rate of 78%, with 62% of corn rated good to excellent, 1% higher.

52% of winter wheat is planted, compared to the normal pace of 47%, and 24% has emerged, compared to 21% on average.

83% of cotton bolls are opening, compared to 75% on average, with 17% harvested, compared to 20% typically in early October, with 40% of the crop called good to excellent, down 3%.

71% of rice is harvested, compared to the five-year average of 78%.

26% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, steady with last week.

The USDA’s next set of crop production estimates is out Friday.
