Johnson’s PRICE Act on market transparency

South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson has introduced a bill he says will increase cattle market transparency, improve risk management and support new and expanding meat processors.

Johnson says cattle country is hurting and has not fully recovered since the 2019 Tyson Holcomb plant fire and now the COVID-19 pandemic.

The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association president says the comprehensive package addresses important issues cattle producers are facing. Eric Jennings says the proposed feasibility study for additional cattle processing facilities is critical to finding the right solution to livestock marketing issues. And, he says, the help for smaller beef processing plans to increase their production is another step in the right direction. Co-sponsors of the PRICE Act include Rick Crawford of Arkansas, Jason Smith of Missouri and both Tom Emmer and Jim Hagedorn of Minnesota.
