Iowa’s crop ratings see another decline

Iowa’s corn and soybean condition ratings continued their slow decline this week as drought conditions in western Iowa take a toll on crops.

Iowa’s corn crop is now rated 77 percent good to excellent, with soybeans at 76 percent.  Both crops are down three points from last week and eight points less than early July.

Twenty-three percent of corn was in the dough stage, four days ahead of average. Fifty percent of soybeans were setting pods, five days ahead of average.

The oats harvest was 56 percent complete and rated 73 percent good to excellent.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is nearly complete and hay condition rated 69 percent good to excellent. Pasture condition rated 51 percent good to excellent.
