Ronald ‘Ron’ Eugene Nichols, 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Genesis East.
A Private Military graveside service will be conducted by the United States Army and the Moline American Legion, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Pastor Ann Champion will officiate. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the American Legion. Ron was born on January 17, 1946, in Muscatine, the son of Virgil and Mae Kalk Nichols. He married Julie D. Sill. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2013.
Ron served in the United States Army. He received a Vietnam service medal, expert rifle medal, and a marksman medal. He worked as a carpenter for most of his life.
Ron enjoyed drinking beer, smoking his cigarettes, gambling at the casino, and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time at the Hilltop Tap.
Ron is survived by his children, Ronda (Carl) Huston, Audra (Gary) Sill, Regina Balfe, Levi Nichols, Anissa Nichols, Debra (Eric) Niemi, Jennifer Nichols, and Taylor Nichols; stepchildren, Steve Nichols and Rebecca (Robert) Turner; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother, Dennis Nichols.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Helen, Shirley, Virgil, Ernie, and Byron; and stepson, Byron (BJ) Nichols.
