Lawrence ‘Larry’ George Richter Jr.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ George Richter Jr., 75, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by people he loved.

Graveside Service will be at conducted by the United States Army and the Blue Grass American Legion Post 71 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quad City Veterans Outreach Center, in his honor. Lawrence was born on September 5, 1949, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Lawrence George Richter Sr. and Nellie Margaret Potter. He married Patricia ‘Pat’ Ann Smith on March 22, 1985, in Montpelier, Iowa.

Larry was a United States Army veteran and served in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Blue Grass American Legion, VFW, and Vietnam Veterans Association. He was a volunteer for the Montpelier Fire Department. He was a truck driver for many years with Gless Bros and later worked at AMSCO.

Larry was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was always searching for a project to work on. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley with his wife, and telling it how it is. Larry loved his family, especially his grandchildren, his very special dog, Georgia, and his special friend, ‘Little Man’ and Amanda.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pat; children, Tonya (Jason) Strong and Terri (Tom Bates) Cheville; grandchildren, Ashlee (Mike) Schabilion, Megan (Jared) Versasselt, Samantha (Alex Kleinheinz) Martin, Tyler (Morgan Carew) Martin, and Rebecca (Derek) Miller; and greatgrandchildren, Hadlee, Tanslee, Raylan, June, Rhett, and Ellie.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his dogs, Sam and Dusty.
