Scottie was born on March 17, 1934, in Gilmore, Oklahoma, the son of Pratt and Rose Ella McMillin. In 1949, Scottie declared his faith in Christ through salvation and was baptized in Nail Creek in Gilmore. Coincidentally, Alice Burden was baptized in Nail Creek on the same day as Scottie. On May 27, 1955, Scottie was united in marriage to Alice Burden in Poteau. Throughout their 62 years of marriage, they lived in Poteau and Stillwater, Oklahoma; Greenfield, Wisconsin; Hastings, Nebraska; and Muscatine.

Scottie was a member of The Gideons International, Cowboys for Christ, and a Navy veteran. He loved honoring his faith by serving as a Deacon or Elder at the church where they lived. Scottie received his Master’s in Agronomy and a minor in Ranching (OSU). He was very active in the 4H in Nebraska and loved working with kids. Scottie had a heart for disadvantaged kids who lived in town and did not have access to animal and agricultural activities, so he created and led a city kid 4H program.

He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time outside with his horses and had a special love and passion for dogs.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter Janet (Steve) Phillips of Muscatine; son Ted (Rhonda) McMillin of Kansas City, MO; Five grandchildren, Kristin (Chris)Hassel, Timothy (Alisa) Phillips, Kylee (David) Rader, Kameron McMillin and Dalton (Maya) McMillin; four great-grandchildren, Astoria, Adeline, and Theo Phillips and Owen Rader; and brother James (Wanda) McMillin.

Scottie was preceded in death by his parents and wife on December 6, 2017.
