Work continues on updating Comprehensive Plan

(City of Muscatine)

The process of updating the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Muscatine continues as project consultants, RDG Planning & Design, Inc., prepare to enter the second phase of the project entitled “Refining Concepts”. The Comprehensive Plan is an important tool that will provide guidance to community leaders and decision-makers for sound and efficient community growth patterns based on the vision of community stakeholders.

Public participation is the cornerstone of the project, aptly named “Make It Muscatine” and RDG Planning & Design, Inc., have developed a project website that provides information on the planning process, promotes upcoming public input events, and features an interactive map for virtual engagement. Visit the website and click on Interactive Map to drop a pin and share your ideas or concerns. You can also read through and react to the comments left by others. Also be sure to participate in the Community Survey, also available on the website where you can share your ideas and priorities for the City of Muscatine.

For more information on the “Make it Muscatine” planning process and to stay up-to-date on upcoming events, visit the project website at Make It Muscatine.

Be sure to bookmark the Project Website and check in often for updates and opportunities to participate. You can also find a link to the “Comprehensive Plan” and “Updating the Comprehensive Plan” on the City of Muscatine website under Common Service Requests or on the Community Development page at Updating the Comprehensive Plan.

The public is invited to join City of Muscatine staff and the project consultants to plan for the future of Muscatine by helping to create a new Comprehensive Plan by attending the Emerging Concepts Open House at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. More details on the meeting will be announced later but save the date to come and share your ideas and goals for the City of Muscatine with the planning team.

The current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2013. The goals contained within that plan were reviewed by Andrew Fangman, Senior Planner, during the Thursday (Dec. 12) Muscatine City Council in-depth session. The current plan contained 82 goals and 501 implementation strategies. View the presentation to the Council by clicking HERE.
