City Council to review EMS services, Comprehensive Plan goals this week

Battalion Chief Gary Ronzheimer will review Emergency Medical Services essential services and Assistant Community Development Director Andrew Fangman will provide a progress report on Comprehensive Plan goals to the Muscatine City Council during an in-depth session Thursday, December 12, in Muscatine City Hall.

The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend the session when the Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers on the second flood of Muscatine City Hall. The meeting is open to all individuals regardless of language spoken or disability. Any person requiring a reasonable accommodation to participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1550.

Ronzheimer will provide City Council with a review of Muscatine County EMS Essential Services processes and update the Council on the current initiatives that Muscatine EMS Association is researching.

The City has initiated the process of updating the City of Muscatine Comprehensive Plan with the current version adopted in 2013. Fangman will provide an overview of the progress on the goals for established in the 2013 Comprehensive Plan including 15 goals for transportation infrastructure (12 of which have been completed or seen significant progress), five goals for environmental quality, and 19 land use goals.

The in-depth session will be the second meeting of the night for the Muscatine City Council who will conduct a special session starting at 6 p.m. The special session was called to discuss and appoint Cinda Hilger as City Clerk and to discuss and appoint Anthony Kies as Assistant City Administrator. Both appointments would go into effect on December 16, 2024.

Kies is completing his role as the Interim City Administrator with Matt Mardesen beginning his duties as Muscatine City Administrator on Monday (Dec. 16). A public reception to welcome Mardesen to Muscatine will be held 5-5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, in the City Council Chambers. All members of the public are welcome to come to City Hall and meet the new City Administrator.
