Leland Vance Chapman

Leland Vance Chapman, 76, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at VA Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Kayla Lange-Carney will officiate. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the funeral home. Following the visitation there will be Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his son, Brice, to be used for a pay-it-forward fund in Lee’s memory. Online Condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Leland was born on March 3, 1948, in Muscatine, the son of Vance and Inis Smith Chapman. He married Caroline McKinney on June 17, 1972, in San Diego.

Leland graduated from Muscatine High School in 1968. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in Sunday Morning Live Sunday School and United Marriage Encounters. He was a past Master of Triune Lodge #641. Leland was also a member in Iowa 2, Order of Eastern Star Electra Chapter 32, Mohassen Grotto, Kaaba Shriners, Davenport Scottish Rite, and Pearl City Sams Camping Group. Leland was a Navy Veteran serving from 1968 to 1972.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends, and riding high wheel bikes in parades. Leland was an avid WWE fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Over the past year, he was looking forward to the arrival of his first grandson, Brodie, and enjoyed spending time with him. Leland also loved going on adventures with Brice and Dana.

Leland is survived by his son, Brice (Dana) Chapman; grandson, Brodie Chapman; and siblings, Ruth Adkison, Marlene Chelf, and Willard “Bill” Chapman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline, in 2006; and grandparents.
