Joyce (Crawford) Lindow

Joyce (Crawford) Lindow, 83, was welcomed to heaven on December 7, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich Riley Freers Funeral Home.  A visitation will occur one hour prior to services.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service.  Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at Wesley United Methodist Church, immediately following the burial.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.

Joyce was born on June 7, 1941, in Iowa City, IA to George and Charlotte Crawford.  Her formative years were spent on a farm just outside Lone Tree, IA.  After graduation from high school, she and her parents moved to Muscatine, IA where she met her future husband, George Lindow – literally the boy just across the street.  They married on October 15, 1960, and welcomed their only daughter, Laura, in July 1961.

While Laura was growing up, Joyce tended to the needs of the family.  During that time, she received her Associates Degree from Muscatine Community College.  Once Laura was college-bound, she worked as an insurance agent at Miller & Harrison Insurance, retiring in 1996.

Joyce will be remembered for her love of family and being a tireless volunteer for numerous organizations of which she was a member.  She was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Chapter FC of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Pilot Club.  In her younger days, she rarely said “no” and was always willing to lend a helping hand where possible.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Laura (Lindow) Scott, and her nieces, June Viner Hackworth (Alan), Jeannine Viner Sarmiento (Alfredo) and her nephew, Jim Viner (Katy Krapfl).  She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2019, her parents, and her sister, Jane.

Her daughter would like to express utmost appreciation to her friend Nancy who was always there when needed, and the staff at Lutheran Living and St. Croix Hospice for their kind and compassionate care, especially during the last months of Joyce’s life.  They are true angels on earth.
