James Fredrick Hargrave, 83, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at his home.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Sharon Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at the Island Cemetery.

James was born on October 7, 1941, in Muscatine, the son of Walter and Evva Nicewanner Hargrave. He married Verla Ashbaugh on April 1, 1961, in Muscatine.
James enjoyed nature and spent countless hours hunting and fishing. His self-taught skill as a taxidermist was unmatched and he took great pride in preserving his family and friends’ hunting memories. James shared a special bond with the love of his life, Verla. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. They enjoyed doing everything together including occasional trips to the casino. Above all, James loved his family and loved spending time with them.
James is survived by his wife, Verla; sons, Mike (Jennifer) Hargrave of Fruitland, Greg (Penny) Hargrave of Fruitland, and Jeff (Deana) Hargrave of Muscatine; grandchildren, Nathan, Jessica, Taylor, Adam, Travis, Lauren, and Mackenzie; great grandchildren, Beth, Lexie, Emree, Lennyn, Priden, Shiloh, Quincy, Leo, and one great granddaughter on the way in April; siblings, Keith Hargrave, Dorothy (Dewey) Williams, and Joann (Wayne) Latimer; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Lisa Hargrave; and brother-in-law, Richard ‘Doc’ Livingston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert (Sharon) Hargrave, Irene Livingston, Joyce (Allen) Wagner, Mary ‘Chris’ Buell, Grace (Kenny) Dahnke, and Dennis Hargrave; and nephews, Matthew and David Hargrave.
