Iowa’s kicker Drew Stevens lined up to kick a game winning field goal against Nebraska only to have the Cornhuskers call time out. He followed through with the kick and sent it right through the middle of the uprights. Minutes later, he did it again when it counted and squeaked that kick just inside the right side of the goal post sending Kinnick Stadium inti a frenzy as the Hawkeyes downed the Huskers 13-10.

In a game that Nebraska led most of the way, Iowa managed to find the most improbable way to escape with their 8th win of the season and stay in the Top 5 teams in the Big Ten. Max Llewellyn cemented his place in Hawkeye history with a sack and strip of Dylan Raiola and then recovered the fumble to set up the stage for Stevens to kick the game winner.

In a typical Iowa, Nebraska game, the offense was hard to come by for both teams as the defenses stymied the offenses in the cold and wind. It wasn’t until Kaleb Johnson took a swing pass 72 yards through the heart of the Husker defense to put the Hawkeye faithful into a post turkey day frenzy  tying the game at 10, that it appeared the Hawkeyes had a path to a victory.

The stat line for the Hawkeyes wasn’t pretty but as in many wins in the Kirk Ferentz era, the defense found opportunity after opportunity to put the offense in a position to score. Nebraska led in time of possession 39:01 to 20:59, total yards 334-164 and first downs, 20-5. But Iowa had the only two turnovers of the game and it led to fields goals to keep the Heroes Game trophy in Iowa City.
