Six presentations to be held at City Council meeting; Aquatic Center, boat harbor and marina update plans on agenda

Six presentations will be made to members of the Muscatine City Council during their in-depth session Thursday (Nov. 14) at Muscatine City Hall. Among the items will be update plans for the Aquatic Center and the Muscatine Boat Harbor and Marina, installation of public art in MuscaBus shelters, an update on ongoing construction projects, and traffic control at the Bidwell and Leroy intersection.

The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend when the Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers on the second flood of Muscatine City Hall.  The meeting is open to all individuals regardless of language spoken or disability. Any person requiring a reasonable accommodation to participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1550.

Transit Supervisor Amy Fortenbacher will lead a presentation on the installation of public art on MuscaBus shelters throughout the city. The primary goal of this pilot project is to encourage interest from other organizations or community groups to sponsor a bus shelter and design artwork for the shelter with the ultimate vision of securing sponsorship for all 12 bus shelters. Muscatine Art Center Director Melanie Alexander took the project to the Public Art Commission who would review all proposed art projects and give recommendations and approvals. The Commission voted to support the project at its Oct. 30, 2024, meeting.

Parks and Recreation Program Supervisor Blake Allington, Parks Supervisor Melissa Baker, and Parks and Recreation Director Richard Klimes will lead presentations on potential improvements and additional amenities to the Muscatine Aquatic Center at Weed Park, along with potential improvements and updated and/or additional amenities to the Muscatine Boat Harbor and Marina.

Also, on the agenda is:

  • A presentation from Andy Carver on a TIF request from Carver Pump;
  • An update on ongoing construction projects in the city from the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works; and,
  • A discussion on proposed traffic control at the Leroy and Bidwell intersection from the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works.
