Various street closures, parking restrictions in place for weekend events

The boat launch and parking lot downriver of the Iowa Avenue entrance to Riverside Park will be closed on Saturday, August 17, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to the arrival of the American Serenade, one of three cruise ships owned by the American Cruise Lines that will be stopping in Muscatine during the 2024 cruise season.

The parking lot will be closed to allow American Cruise Line buses to pick up passengers as they depart the ship and visit various destinations in Muscatine. Passengers will also have the opportunity to visit Downtown Muscatine area including the weekly Farmer’s Market in City of Muscatine Parking Lot 7 (across from City Hall).

The American Serenade will be arriving at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday with passengers disembarking to explore Muscatine from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The cruise ship is scheduled to depart Muscatine at 1 p.m. Saturday. Once the ship leaves the Port of Muscatine, the parking area will be opened for public use.

 

Various streets closed Saturday morning for Muscatine Stampede

 

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Several Muscatine streets will be temporarily closed Saturday for the Watermelon Stampede 5K and 10K races, which are scheduled to be run between 8 and 10 a.m. Traffic control volunteers will be at various locations to stop traffic as the runners/walkers come past.

Each race begins, and ends, at the Muscatine Community YMCA on Logan Street. The 5K route will move up Logan to West Fulliam to Kindler to Lucas to Logan to Newell, and back down Kindler to West Fulliam and the final stretch on Logan to the finish at the YMCA.

The 10K route is similar except that when reaching Lucas the 10K runners will go to West 8th, to Newell, to Lucas, and then down Houser to just past Harmony Lane where they will turn around. The 10k runners will retrace their steps down Houser to Lucas and back to Kindler and West Fulliam before the final stretch on Logan to the finish at the YMCA.

Drivers are urged to avoid these areas and find alternate routes of travel until the competition ends.

Block of West 2nd Street to be closed Saturday for street dance

 

MUSCATINE, Iowa – West 2nd Street will be closed to traffic from Chestnut to Pine streets from noon on Saturday, August 17, to 2 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, for a Homecoming Street Dance sponsored by Proof Social. A stage will be set up near the Pine Street intersection with access restricted to Parking Lot No. 2.

Proof Social is sponsoring two bands to help “Celebrate the ‘8os” including “Spoiler Alert” and “Room 212”. The bands will perform on the stage from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Access into the event will be restricted with tickets available near the Chestnut Street intersection. Access will also be at the Chestnut Street entrance to the block party.

Special Guests will be the Muscatine High School Class of 184 and Class of 1989.
