A Muscatine police detective was presented the Muscatine Police Department Life Saving Award during a recent City Council meeting after he was credited for saving a man’s life in March 2024.

Muscatine Police Detective Britt Jameson self-initiated a response on March 21, 2024, to a report of an adult male who was actively choking and unable to breath. Detective Jameson found the victim not breathing and becoming unresponsive, and immediately repositioned the victim and delivered repeated abdominal thrusts until the food item the victim was choking on was dislodged. The victim was able to resume breathing and regained full consciousness.

The award was presented by Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark and based upon the recommendation of Muscatine Police Chief Tony Kies. Members of Detective Jameson’s family were present for the award presentation Thursday.
