George was born on August 1, 1932, in Belvedere Illinois, the son of Fred and Allie Stulz. He married Irene Simon on February 20, 1954, in River Grove, Illinois. George and Irene started their family and farming careers just outside Belvedere, Illinois. In 1970, they moved just east of Muscatine, Iowa to a farm which is still operational today. George and Irene christened their farm “Stacres”.
George was the consummate farmer. When he wasn’t in the field, he was keeping up on the latest in agricultural innovations and monitoring crop prices. George was also committed to giving to the local farming community and for years served on the boards of the Rock Island County Farm Bureau and the Drury County Drainage District. George was inducted into the Rock Island County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame in 2012. George and Irene also established the “George and Irene Stulz Family Scholarship” as another way to contribute to the farming community.
Irene preceded George in death on November 23, 2011.
George was lucky enough to find love a second time and married Kathy (Mary) Estelle in 2013. They moved to Illinois City to get away from the everyday hubbub of the farm, but George still was a regular fixture at Stacres. He relished harvest and ran the combine through the fall of last year.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Jim Stulz and wife, Melissa, Ken Stulz, and Susan Stulz and husband, Cris Schiebold; grandchildren, Utah Stulz, Montana Stulz, Brianna Stulz, Kolt Stulz, and Sage Stulz; and 8 great grandchildren.
