Senior Resources of Muscatine is thrilled to announce the opening of the new Senior Center, a collaborative effort between dedicated community volunteers and Senior Resources. This initiative stems from a 2023 feasibility survey, which highlighted the critical need for a centralized hub catering to seniors aged 60 and older. The center, which will open on May 6, 2024, at the Musserville Church located at 1001 Oregon St, promises to be a cornerstone of socialization, wellness, and leisure opportunities for active aging older adults in Muscatine County.
Led by volunteers, the center will offer a diverse range of activities catering to active aging seniors, including exercise programs, crafting sessions, card games, special interest speakers, and everyone’s favorite, bingo!
For those eager to learn more about the Senior Center’s activities and offerings, we invite you to attend the Aging Adult Resource Fair on April 26th from 10 am to 1 pm at Musserville Church. This event will feature a center tour and a preview of the programs awaiting our seniors, along with resources from several other community organizations.
To ensure the success of the Senior Center, we are launching a donation drive and recruiting volunteers to assist with operations, activity planning, and outreach efforts. Individuals who contribute $1,000 or more will become founding members, demonstrating their commitment to supporting active and aging seniors in Muscatine.
“Our vision for the Senior Center is to establish it as a vibrant social hub for seniors in our community,” says Ed Lampe, advisory board member and volunteer. “While we will open with a proposed activity schedule, our focus in the inaugural year will be on tailoring programs and operating hours to best serve our participants.”
Looking ahead, a structured membership model with options for monthly, annual, individual, and household memberships will be introduced in January 2025 to sustain the Senior Center’s operations and ensure its long-term viability.
For more information about the Senior Center and how to donate or get involved, please contact Megan Francis at 563-263-7292 or mfrancis@crossroadsmuscatine.org.
We look forward to welcoming seniors and community members alike to the new Senior Center to become a place where seniors are connected to resources and a community of peers.
The Aging Adult Resource Fair is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring friends and family to explore the offerings and gather valuable information.
