An ag economist says this week’s Prospective Plantings report from the USDA could provide some risk management opportunities for livestock producers.
University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says the report could be helpful for cattle feeders and hog producers. “We could plant more corn than we would have thought maybe a month ago because this early spring has gotten us more fertilizer anhydrous on,” he says.
In its pre-report survey, Allendale projects farmers will plant 93.46 million acres of corn, 47.52 million acres of wheat, and 95.94 million acres of soybeans in 2024.
The report comes out March 28 at Noon Eastern/11 AM Central.
