Spotted lanternfly detected in Kentucky

The first sighting of the invasive spotted lanternfly in Kentucky was confirmed this week.

The University of Kentucky reports the pest was spotted in Gallatin County near the borders of Indiana and Ohio, states where it was previously confirmed.

Assistant entomology professor Jonathan Larson says producers of grapes, hardwoods, apples and hops could see negative effects from the spotted lanternfly as it is a sap-sucking insect that leaves behind honeydew that can harm vegetation and attract stinging insects.
