Work continues to prepare Sycamore Street for paving

It has been a busy week for Phase 6 of the West Hill Sanitary and Storm Sewer Separation Project with underground work moving to the intersection of Sycamore and 11th with Sycamore Street being prepped for paving from West 8th to West 10th.

It may seem like there has not been much activity on Sycamore Street during the past week, but that is because the General Contractor, KE Flatworks, Inc., has been resolving issues with gas and water lines before continuing to prep the first two blocks of Sycamore for paving.

While underground work continues at one end of the project, activity will increase at the other end with tiling and the placement of an electrical conduit expected to take up most of the rest of this week, weather permitting. The final surface prep will begin next week with paving anticipated the first week of November. All work is dependent on the weather.

The first two blocks of Sycamore along with the alley between 8th and 9th streets are expected to be completed by mid- to late-November according to the project timeline.

Storm and sanitary sewer runs have been completed on Sycamore up to 10th Street and completed on 9th and 10th streets up to Iowa Avenue. A new water main has also been installed up to 10th Street.

Sycamore Street is currently closed from West 8th to Logan with West 9th, West 10th and West 11th closed from Sycamore to Iowa. Local traffic is permitted where possible.

Drivers are reminded to use caution in and around work zones, be alert for construction workers, and pay attention to traffic control devices. Traffic fines are doubled in work zones.
