A major pattern shift to deliver unseasonably cold air to most of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or below-normal temperatures and near- or above-normal precipitation across much of the country.  Warmer-than-normal weather will be confined to portions of the Rio Grande Valley and areas east of a line from eastern Texas to Lake Erie.

Meanwhile drier-than-normal conditions should be limited to the southern California, the Northwest, and the Desert Southwest.
