Farmer hopes for more rain after harvest

An Iowa farmer says dry weather has helped harvest progress smoothly.

Cass County’s Glen Smith tells Brownfield, “Corn is drying down nicely so we’re not running up a lot of costs and drying, no major storms going through yet that have hurt the standability of the crop.”

He says the severe to extreme drought across the state is a concern heading into next year.

“These soil reserves are just down to nothing right now, which means the tank is pretty well empty looking at the 2024 crop year,” he says.
