U.S. egg production moved higher in September.
The USDA says 9.16 billion eggs were laid in September 2023, up 3% from September 2022, including nearly 8 billion table eggs and 1.3 billion hatching eggs, most of those intended for broiler production.
The average number of layers and rate of lay per day were also above year ago levels.
There were just over 51 million egg-type chicks hatched, 4% under the prior year, even as the number of eggs in incubators and domestic placements of pullets for future hatchery supply flocks moved higher.
