Illinois weather nearly ideal for harvest kick-off

Illinois State Climatologist Trent Ford says weather has been favorable for the start of corn and soybean harvest across the state.

He tells Brownfield cool, dry conditions have helped bring crops to maturity.

“This next week is also looking pretty dry. Most of the state is forecast to get less than 1/4 inch over the next seven days. And although temperatures are forecasted to increase, it’s not going to be excessively hot.”

He says there has been little rainfall across the state the last 30 days but that could change toward the end of the month.
