Cattle, hog futures mixed to start the week

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, live and feeder cattle were mixed, mostly higher ahead of the week’s direct cash business.  Boxed beef was sharply higher at midday.  October lives closed $.20 lower at $179.95 and December lives closed $.02 lower at $184.15.  October feeder cattle closed $.35 lower at $254.30.

Direct cash cattle trade activity was quiet to kick off the holiday-shortened week.  Showlists are mixed – higher in Texas, somewhat lower in Nebraska/Colorado, and lower in Kansas.
