Agronomist says Illinois corn yields could be better than expected

An Illinois based agronomist predicts some farmers in his coverage area will be pleasantly surprised by their corn yields.

“It’s kind of amazing how good the corn looks following the driest June in history.”

Wyffels Hybrids Agronomy Manager Ryan Gentle tells Brownfield the credit goes to improved genetics.

“We wouldn’t have near the crop even from 2012 if we’re using the same genetics that we have now.”

He says timely rains in some areas the last two months have also helped the crop recover from a dry June.
