Farmer says soil is like “baby powder”

South Central Nebraska farmer Randy Uhrmacher says the lack of rainfall and historic drought are his top concerns for the growing season.

“I noticed the dirt was just two inches of pure powder and I took it in my hand and it’s just like baby powder with a little bit of crop residue in from last year.  It kind of showed how dry it is and how bad of need we are of moisture right now in this area.”

If things don't change the dryland crops will be done by the end of June and I will be very grouchy by the end of August irrigating.
