Two suspects charged for apartment complex shooting

Two individuals have been charged following a Muscatine Police Department (MPD)  investigation into an overnight shooting on May 4 at Cedar Parks Apartments, 1816 Logan Street, Muscatine.

MPD responded at 9:41 p.m. on May 4 to the report of gunshots at 1816 Logan St. (Cedar Park Apartments).The preliminary investigation determined that multiple rounds had been fired across the parking lot, but no one had been hurt. An apartment building and a vehicle were struck by multiple rounds of gunfire.

Muscatine Police detectives were able to recover two firearms from the scene on the night of the shooting. One of the firearms recovered had previously been reported as stolen to another law enforcement agency.

Through the continuing investigation, Detectives were able to develop probable cause to file criminal charges against two suspects they believe are responsible for the shooting. As a result, arrest warrants have been secured for Charles Edward Smith, Jr., 28, Iowa City, Iowa, and Dejeion Terrell Moore, 20, Rock Island, Illinois.

Smith, Jr., was arrested Thursday (May 18) in Iowa City and charged with four counts of attempted murder (Class B Felony), one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon (Class C Felony), one count of trafficking stolen weapons (Class C Felony), and three counts of child endangerment, non-injury (Aggravated Misdemeanor).

Police are still looking for Moore who is considered to be armed and dangerous. The public is encouraged to call 911 if they see him and should not try to approach him.

Moore is charged with four counts of attempted murder (Class B Felony), one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon (Class C Felony), one count of trafficking stolen weapons (Class C Felony), and three counts of child endangerment, non-injury (Aggravated Misdemeanor).

Both suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
