Corn planting jumps 53% in north-central Iowa

Farmers in north central Iowa made significant planting progress last week.

Iowa State University Extension agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz says the percentage of corn planted jumped from 19 to 72 percent.

“Major progress in corn planting last week, and then the same on soybeans. We were up to 50 percent of the soybeans planted in north central Iowa in the crop progress report, so great conditions last week.”

She tells Brownfield warmer temperatures helped corn planted in mid-April emerge.
