Tar spot management top of mind for Iowa farmer

Eastern Iowa farmer Dave Walton says tar spot is his biggest concern for the 2023 growing season.

“We’ve had it for four or five years at varying levels,” he said. “What we have learned over the years is we have to be a little bit more aggressive with our fungicide applications.”

He tells Brownfield, “It has cost us some yield the last few years where we have not treated it as aggressively.”

Tar spot can develop during cool temperatures with high humidity and extended hours of dew at night.
