Improved field conditions help SD planting

Soybean planting started Monday for a farmer in eastern South Dakota.

Dave Ellens tells Brownfield the good soil moisture will help give the crop get a good start.

“There’s enough moisture to get the seed going, but it’s dry enough to plant the entire fields.”

Ellens says corn planting started at the beginning of May and took about one week.

“If you blinked, you missed it. It’s amazing how fast farmers can put a crop in,” he says.
