West central Iowa farmer on the backside of planting

Planting is nearly complete for west-central Iowa farmer Brent Johnson.

“I’ve got about 150 acres of beans left to go, so we’re getting right there towards the end.”

The Calhoun County corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield some of his early-planted corn is emerging.

“With some of these rain showers and warmer weather it is finally showing up, so I think we’re off to a really good start.”

Johnson is the president of Iowa Farm Bureau and suggests it has been on the dry side this spring, but he says that typically contributes to optimal planting conditions.
