Illinois farmers more than doubled their planting progress for the season last week.
The USDA reports as of Sunday 40% of corn is planted, a jump from 18% the week before and well ahead of the five-year average of 29%. Four percent of the crop has emerged, in line with average.
Soybean planting is 39% complete, ahead of the total for the previous week and the average of 15%. Three percent of Illinois soybeans have emerged, compared to 1% on average.
