Michael David Burns Sr., 77, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Trinity Muscatine Hospital.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Muscatine V.F.W. Post 1565. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Michael was born on March 30, 1946, in Muscatine, the son of Ralph and Elva Cunningham Burns. He married Barbara L. Saltz in Muscatine, on April 4, 1967.
Michael was a veteran of Vietnam War and later served in Korea. He worked as an electrician building an airport in Vietnam. He remained in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve for 22 years. Michael drove a truck most recently for Pallister Pallets of Wapello.
He enjoyed making jewelry, keeping his hands busy, and always loved giving gifts to people. He loved to laugh. He had such a soft heart for children and was crazy about his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Michael D. Burns Jr. and wife, Malinda, Dale W. Burns, Terry J. Burns and wife, Chrissy, Dottie L. Lawrence and husband, Mark, and Misttie A. Burns; grandchildren, Timothy and Thomas Burns, Scotty and Brandon Burns, David J. Burns, Dylan, Evan, and Lathan Lawrence, Charles and Michaela Burns, Jody and Alieson Gilliland; siblings, Martha Marx and the late Donald ‘Duke’ Marx, Rosemary Smartt and husband, John David, Kenneth Burns and wife, Dr. Marianne Smith, and Patsy Burns and husband, Timothy; mother-in-law, Arlene Saltz; brother-in-law, Perry Saltz Jr. and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Natalie Wilson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cassy L. Burns; sister, Joyce Butler and husband, Ben Butler; Sister, Bessie Riley and husband, GL ‘Rusty’ Riley; brother, Ralph Burns Jr.; 3 brothers from infancy; 1 older brother; and 2 younger twins.
