Early market indications worrisome for asparagus growers

The head of the Michigan Asparagus Advisory Board says she’s very concerned to see consumers cut back on vegetable purchases to counter higher food costs.

Jamie Clover Adams tell Brownfield, “Sales at retail are higher, but that’s because prices are higher.”  “Volume is down 3.5 percent year over year, March to March,” she says.

Clover Adams says Peruvian import dumping during the American harvest has been even more troublesome in the current environment with many growers now facing several years of limited returns.
