Planting ahead of average in Illinois

Corn and soybean planting are both ahead of average after a week of warmer than normal temperatures and little rainfall.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 10% of corn is planted, up from 1% the week before. No corn was planted at this time last year and the five-year average for this point in the season is 3%.

Soybean planting kicked off with 4% in the ground, compared to 0% at this time last year and the 5-year average.
