Tyson workers strike ahead of facility closing

Workers at a Tyson chicken processing facility in Arkansas have gone on strike ahead of the Van Buren plant’s closure in May.  According to Vanceremos, a newly formed organization that advocates for poultry workers in Arkansas, workers are seeking better working conditions and benefits related to the plant closure.

Workers went on strike on Monday and are demanding equal treatment to supervisors and corporate employees, who will receive a severance package based on their tenure. The organization says employees were informed they would not receive severance pay or fully paid for their accrued vacation time.

Tyson has said employees will receive full pay for unused vacation time or holiday time earned prior to the plant’s closure.
