Almeda Rich

Almeda Rich, 98, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Living or Grace Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the funeral home.

Almeda Fern Schmoldt, the second child of William F. and Minnie A. Prien Schmoldt, was born on October 27, 1924, at their farm home in Muscatine County near Cranston, Ia.

She attended country school at Sand Prairie in Muscatine County and in the city of Muscatine, Ia. Almeda was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1942.

She was married to Louis Logel, and they later divorced. Almeda and Bryan Mills Rich were united in marriage at the Wesley Methodist Church of Moline. They made their home in Muscatine, Iowa; Billings, Montana; Fresno, California; Atlanta Georgia; Greenville, Texas; and after retirement, Muscatine.

Almeda was employed by Huttig Mfg. Co., Muscatine, for over 34 years in the plant and superintendent and main offices. She worked seasonally at the Internal Revenue Service Center, Fresno, CA. and after 1980, as a homemaker.

She was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church and life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1565, Muscatine, IA.

She enjoyed doing needlework, her flowers and exploring the world on the internet. She traveled to many countries, with Germany, and Ireland her favorites. She cherished being with her family and caring for her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her son Jay Logel (Lea Ann), Muscatine, IA; grandchildren, Jay D. Logel II, Dearborn, MI, Leslie Logel (David Ward), Des Moines, IA, and Sarah E. Thompson (Leon), Muscatine, IA; great grandchildren, Bricen Lane (Hannah Bentley), Lauren M. Proffitt (Tony Dhaliwal) and Nicole E. Doak (Zach); great great grandchildren, Avery, Brayden, Jayce, Xander, and expected great great grandson in August. Niece, Tibe Vander Linden (Douglas) and niece in law, Barbara Schmelzer.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Bryan; sister, Norma Rutka and brother in-law George; nephew, Gary Schmelzer.
