Michigan farmer itching to get in the field amid excessive rains

Western Michigan farmer Ryan Brink says excessive moisture has put a stop to spring field work.

“We’re very wet.  We are continually getting rain weekly.  That’s not allowed us to get out and do any fertilizer.  The growing season or the planting season is getting more condensed.”

He tells Brownfield that will likely push back planting a few weeks if not more, which called for some changes. “We made an adjustment with some seed placement already because of availability to shorten things up, but it hasn’t been anything major at this point.”

Brink says he typically starts planting at the end of April, but soil temperatures are still lower than normal.
