Transition out of La Nina signals more moisture this spring and summer

A state climatologist says the transition out of La Nina will likely result in wetter than normal spring conditions for much of the Midwest.

Justin Glisan is with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

“When we look at the trend from La Nina to ENSO neutral, as we see in the March, April, May timeframe, we should see higher amounts of precipitation than we would in the La Nina phase.”

He tells Brownfield there’s also an increasing likelihood of a shift to El Nino in late summer.
