Elma ‘Kay’ Hill-Twitty, 82, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Unity Point Hospital – Allen Memorial of Waterloo.
Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Muscatine. Pastor Matthea Haecker will officiate. Burial will take place in Swank Cemetery at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made in Kay’s honor, to the family. Kay was born on March 30, 1941, in Muscatine, the daughter of Charles and Lucille Hainey Hurlbut. She grew up in Grandview and Muscatine, was baptized at First Baptist Church in Muscatine, and graduated from Muscatine High School in 1959. She married Kenneth Hill on June 11, 1960, he preceded her in death in 2011. She later married Trevis Twitty on March 24, 2018.
She was a homemaker for a number of years. Kay had a ceramic shop with her best friend, Bonnie Buser for several years. She also worked at the University of Iowa in food service for 10 years before retiring. Kay also had a daylily garden that she greatly enjoyed and liked to share with her family and friends.
Kay is survived by her husband, Trevis; son, Donald Hill; daughter, Tamera (Allen) Nicklaus; step-daughter, Anita Kelly; granddaughter, Katherine (Matt) Novak; sisters-in-law, Norma Hurlbut, Betty Hurlbut, and Maxine Lund; and lots of extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Kenneth; one brother, Dennis Hurlbut; brother-in-law, Robert Hurlbut; and several of her aunts and uncles.
