First crop report of 2023 points to slow start in Minnesota

Weather is preventing many Minnesota farmers from getting in the field.

In its first crop progress and condition report of 2023, the USDA says there were no days suitable for fieldwork last week.

Reporters say the state is covered in snow, but livestock are doing well with calving continuing.

Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 89 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 83 percent adequate to surplus.
