Iowa preparing for planting

Wet weather during March is setting the stage for spring planting in Iowa.

The USDA says snow and rain during the month has boosted optimism about the growing season, with 35% of the state now reporting no soil moisture issues, compared to just over 9% at the start of the year.

That does leave 65% of the state with conditions ranging from abnormally dry to extreme drought.

Livestock conditions are called good despite reports of muddy conditions in feedlots, with some producers feeding cornstalks and supplemental feed.
